SENSàSION is developing a new rapid Point-of-Care (POC) device for bacteria detection.
The device is based on very sensitive electrochemical detection of viable bacteria.
The methodology can be used to detect the presence and give information on the antimicrobial susceptibility of bacteria in a sample.
The proprietary technology was developed by the Laboratory of Physical and Analytical Electrochemistry (LEPA) led by Prof. Hubert H. Girault at the Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL Valais Wallis, Switzerland).
Technology

Simple protocol

Advantages
Simplicity
Facile sample preparation, no need for bacteria lysis and DNA extraction.
Low-cost
Cheap test as for a glucose blood test.
Flexibility
Flexibility for different bacteria species and types of samples (blood, urine, saliva, swab samples, etc.)
Reliability
Detection of only viable bacteria.
Bacteria YES/NO
Diagnosis if bacteria is the cause of the infection.
Multiplexing
Possibility of multiple bacteria detection during the same analysis.
AST
Possibility to perform the antimicrobial susceptibility testing (AST).
